The Hearing Aid Shop may sound new, look new, and be in a new location, but its roots run deep in the Lakes Region area. Formerly known as Robert I. Williams Hearing Aids LLC and based out of Alton Bay, the company has recently reinvented itself as one of the most accessible, yet technologically advanced hearing care centers in central New Hampshire.
Co-owners Robert Williams and Jessica Williams work together, equally valuing a commitment to provide a superior product and quality customer care as a means to deliver a memorable and positive experience.
Originally, Bob Williams started in the hearing aid business due to the fact that his wife suffered from hearing loss as a result of a severe childhood illness. With a background in electronics from years of building pipe organs throughout New England and a desire to find increasingly better solutions for his wife, Bob naturally became interested in what was available to her in the hearing aid industry hardly expecting it would become his life’s work. He built his business by consistently being approachable and knowledgeable, working out of drug stores and his home in Alton Bay.
The Hearing Aid Shop donated $2,704.75 to the Wolfeboro Lions Club to help kick off the club’s hearing aid program, which helps people who cannot afford hearing aids purchase them. The donation was in honor of Better Hearing and Speech Month, as was a raffle for a pair of brand new, top-of-the-line hearing aids.
In 2004, preparing to relinquish sole responsibility of the business, Bob and grand-daughter Jessica became business partners. Since then, she has brought the company up-to-date installing modern data systems, diagnostic and fitting equipment, and a retail section of the new store. Currently underway, Jessica is developing a plan to work with local organizations in an effort to make hearing aids accessible to low-income community members.
